Nomads under 18’s got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win away at Heswall FC yesterday. Following some disappointing results, but positive performances, it was good to get the reward and put some points on the table. Goals from Luke Kingsley and Oghenero Orhenomare secured the win for the young Nomads.

“We didn’t know much about Heswell going in to the game so our approach was to play to our strengths and be the better footballing side.

We had a good start, winning the midfield battle with plenty of possession. However, Heswell were able to get a foothold in the game early on as we struggled to retain the ball. Midfield turnovers were one of our biggest issues.
As the game progressed a good move down the left found Luke Tinsley on the edge of the box.  With space for a shot he was able to put us 1-0 up.

Our ball retention continued to cause us issues all over the pitch. Heswell were able to pick up momentum which resulted in them hitting the bar from a set piece late in the half. Nevertheless, we were the better team in the first half and deserved to have the lead.
1-0   HT
The instructions at halftime was to improve our ball retention and not sit on a 1-0 lead for 45min.  Heswell were threatening from set pieces and we needed to see the game out.
Going into the second half, Heswell changed there shape to a 3-5-2 which began to cause our centre backs problems and start to get the better of Nomads.  To counteract this we matched their shape, bringing on Asa Knighton to partner Dan Cax at the top of the pitch. From then on, this put the Nomads in a much more comfortable position.

With 15 minutes to go Oghenero Orhenomare picked up the ball on the edge of the box and was able to find bottom corner, taking us to 2-0.
Overall, this was not one of our better performances, but I am pleased we kept going and worked hard and got the result.”
Thanks to Heswall for the game and we look forward to seeing you at the Proseal stadium later in the season.
