Pre Season Friendly

NOMADS 1 Wythenshwe Town 1

Cheadle Heath Nomads started their 2022/23 pre season with an encouraging performance against North West Counties Premier League side Wythenshawe Town.

Both sides started well but Fletcher in the away side goal was the busier keeper and was beaten after 11 minutes when new signing Aerek Pociask tapped home from close range.

Wythenshawe’s best chances came from set pieces but Nomads continued to create chances in the first half.

Just before the hour Wythenshawe equalised, Bryan heading home from close range.

Both sides had chances but Nomads defended well under late pressure and a well fought pre-season game finished all square.

After the game we caught up with manager Jake Davies.

“Overall it was a great game and great performance from the lads. The attitude and application from the group was outstanding and for the first 45 mins we were the team putting the pressure on and playing some excellent football and creating good opportunities. I’m delighted Arek got on the scoresheet to get his first for the club, that’ll give him the confidence to get many more.

Jack Taylor and Alex Fowell were superb in the game and Charlie Mulgrew was everywhere in midfield, I thought they all had very strong performances, it’s given us a great platform now to push on.

We’ve played an excellent Wythenshawe side today who for me will be in the top two of the counties premier league. As I say for 45 mins, they couldn’t get near us. After half time they’ve made some changes and pressed us aggressively and put us under some real pressure, they’ve got so much quality and Matty Bryan scored a good goal, one of the best players in the division above I’ve no doubts in saying that.

A great work out for the players and we’ve a few things to work on away from the game but they aren’t massive things, just a few tweaks to carry on the great work we’ve done with the players last season and that consistency for us is key as I’ve said before. We’re still in the market for recruits to come in but they have to be better than what we have and fit in the mould and profile we are looking for, we aren’t in a rush to get them in as we’ve a few weeks to go until the season comes round yet, the sooner the better but we aren’t in a rush as said. We have to get it right.

Having said all the above I was delighted with the character and how resolute we were today against a top team. We’re only getting better and I feel there was a lot on show today to give ourselves confidence and show others that we are on the incline.”

Next up is hone game on Saturday against Ashton Athletic but if you need another pre-season fix the Reserves start their pre-season campaign on Thursday night with a home game against Rochdale Sacred Heart, 7pm kick off.
