The 2021/22 NWCFL league started yesterday but didn’t go the way of Nomads with a 4-1 away defeat at Cammell Laird. Manager Jake Davies gave us his summary of the match:

Cammell Laird come out of the blocks very quick, getting to the intensity and speed of the game required and eventually getting their rewards with an early 1-0 lead. Nomads struggled to get to grips with the game until the 30 minute mark when a great ball was delivered down the line by Max Lewens to forward Wilf Riley who checked in the box with a drop of the left shoulder to go right and then reversed the ball back to Max Lewens to square the game 1-1 with a tidy finish. Nomads in the ascendency at HT.

Nomads then slow out the blocks again, a very slow and deep press a common theme in the second half which then led to a penalty being given away by Harrison Cunningham albeit quite unfortunate with the Nomads team adamant it hit the Lairds hand. A soft free kick from Nomads given away then leads to the Lairds 3rd goal of the day when the free kick found its way through the wall. Nomads then try to string some passes together and work a chance down the inside left where Kyle Foley checks in and doesn’t quite hit his strike properly as the Lairds keeper claims comfortably to his right side. Finally Lairds grab their 4th on 86 mins with a great strike from 25 yards that hit the underside of the bar and in, nothing much Alex Fowell could of done in goals.

Nomads will look to respond quickly on Tuesday nights visit to New Mills FC.
