Monthe 88

Wallis 5

ATT: 105

Cheadle Heath Nomads suffered a late set back on Saturday as Barnton grabbed an 88th minute equaliser to share the spoils at a wet and windy Townfield.

The visitors handed a first start to on-loan keeper Dimeji Willan and he was in action immediately with a smart save. Despite the good start it was Nomads who took the lead, a brilliant goal from full back Robbie Wallis who beat the keeper with a dipping long range effort.

Nomads began to dominate possession, Kieran Alley and youngster George Howarth seeing plenty of the ball in wide areas and the midfield trio of Tinkler, Byrnes and Milne winning the midfield battles before the impressive Byrnes was forced off with a hamstring injury.

Barnton hung on and were the happier going in at half time only 1-0 down.

The second half became a scrappy affair which allowed the home side to come back into the game. Willan forced into a couple of smart saves.

Lewens and Horner replaced Howarth and Wright and Nomads had chances to win the game but then with two minutes remaining a long kick from Lyons was brilliantly collected by substitute Jordon Monthe who kept his cool to roll the ball past Willan ad earn a point for the home side.

After the game we got the thoughts of Manager Jake Davies:

Overall we are really disappointed with not winning the game, conceding a goal in the manner we did was bitterly disappointing.

First half we needed to come in more than 1-0 up, Barnton weren’t in the game due to how well we pressed and played the conditions of the pitch and we’ve had certainly 3 opportunities that should have been taken.

2nd half we come out and knew the conditions would be in Barnton’s favour but we constantly turned the ball over which didn’t help us get any firm grip on the game.

I felt however defensively we were never really threatened, our keeper making 2 saves and one being very comfortable. We changed our shape to cope with the constant possession we gave away and we were very comfortable.

In the last moment of the game we’ve got into a great area and should have scored but made a wrong decision resulting from this their goalkeeper hits a direct ball over our back 3 and a great bit of skill nicks them a point.

We’ve a big game against west on Thursday to prepare for now and we’ve got to show more quality with the ball to get anything from the game”
