Maine Road – post match thoughts of Manager Jake Davies

“Extremely disappointed with the result of today’s game and even more with the performance as today we were just not good enough and Maine road we’re head and shoulders better than us on the day.

With the ball today we gave it away with unforced errors from minute 1 to minute 90 and when this happens with the group we have and we have to cope with so many transitions it really harms the team and the players have to take so much more responsibility for this as these messages have been consistent across the season.

Without the ball we have been poor all season in my honest opinion and we will be having some honest conversations this week amongst ourselves, we are together as a group but we need to improve quickly in this area. For the opposition to create chances and score goals this is simply too easy.

The way we’ll move forward is if we become more compact without the ball and improve the intensity and energy we play with when we haven’t got it.

As said we’ll have some open discussions this week with the players at training but we’ve no time to dwell with a game on Tuesday night against Macclesfield. One thing I’ll guarantee is that we’ll play with a lot more quality than we have today.

I’ll always take the brunt when I select the players that go on the pitch but I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the whole team today and we quickly need to improve our defensive record after 17 league games played.”
