Nomads put the disappointment of Saturday’s defeat at Abbey Hulton behind them with a 5-1 home victory over Brocton last night. A hat trick from Will Shawcross and one each for Charlie Mulgrew and Danny McLaughlin completed the scoring. Nomads started the game quickly and took the lead in the 2nd minute when shawcross cut inside the defence and curled his shot past the keeper into the top corner. Nomads continued to press in the early stages but Brocton held firm and made some good chances of their own in an entertaining beginning to the match. It was Brocton in fact that scored next to level the game. Nomads were not to be denied however and Shawcross was on target again as the ball broke to him on the edge of the box and he finished comfortably to put the home side back into the lead. Charlie Mulgrew increased the lead 5 minutes later with a superb finish from the edge of the box and it was 4 for Nomads minutes later as Danny McLaughlin continued his scoring run.
Brocton understandably came out fired up and trying to cut back on Nomads lead but it was the home team that scored next, and the hat trick goal for Shawcross. Danny McLaughlin was upended in the box and Shawcross comfortably finished from the spot. At 5-1 the game was over as a contest but that didn’t stop both sides from playing an entertaining game of football as they continued to play good football but neither team could add to the scoreline.
An entertaining game for those who watched and we wish our opponents well for the season and look forward to the return fixture.
